No, I use a trampoline for that.

soapy water and a fresh water rinse. You might want to use a scrub brush on the end of a telescoping pole instead of a ladder for safety reasons.

PostHeaderIcon What do you do If there’s a Dead Bird in Your Rain Gutter…?

I just found it in our rain gutter this morning, while I was cleaning our deck.

I can only see some feathers sticking up, but from the flies buzzing around and the awful stench, I’m pretty sure its dead.

Do we call someone to take it away?

Best thing to do is get some latex gloves on get a ladder out and go get it. Put it in a plastic bag and either bury it or throw away after wrap well in plastic and bag. Then I would wipe down spot on gutter with antibacterial wipes and rinse so the flys will leave. Then get rid of gloves and wash hands well. ;)

PostHeaderIcon has anyone used he leaf shelter system on their gutters? if so, do they keep truly keep you from cleaning them

www.leafshelter.com

Although I had my gutters professionally installed, they have exactly this system which I did not know was called leaf shelter. Thanks for the education. But, I can tell you that I have had my gutters for 10 years and have never cleaned my gutters. I still make hubby get up on the ladder to check them out every year before & after the rainy season because we live in a fire prone canyon and our fire marshall sends out a "preparing for fire season" reminder letter recommending that gutters be cleaned before and after the rainy season. What I can tell you is that we have a tree near our property line and get a lot of wind through here. Sometimes the leaves accumulate on top of the gutter guard (which is what I was told they are called). Much easier to sweep them off with a broom than to dig them out of the trough.

PostHeaderIcon How often do you clean the gutters?

Twice a year, in the spring and fall.

PostHeaderIcon I found a house Sparrow egg while i was cleaning my gutters. Anyone know how to tell if the egg is good?

Before i get reamed for having a wild bird egg It’s a House Sparrow egg… it’s not protected under that Migratory Birds Act… it is ok for me to have it… and i also already know what to expect when and if it hatches… problem is all my experiance with the birds is nestlings, fledglings, and adult birds… i know very little about eggs right now… i found out how to keep it at a constant temp and at the moment have it in with my mom’s plants. (she starts them each spring so they are ready to plant) i know to turn it al least a half turn 2-3 times a day… and that humidity is important… (plants too so that shouldnt be an issue)so… how do i know if the egg is gonna hatch? or if it’s just a dud… Oh and no… i could not just leave it in the gutter… i had 3 ft. worth of drain pipe clogged with nests… bad for the drain and house…
one other thing… how old does the egg have to be before you can tell by candleing?

Candling is fine however if you hold it up and it looks solid then it’s very possible you might have an egg that’s going to hatch soon. You won’t see the veins as the chick fills the egg. Just give it some time. It will get almost black if it’s no good. It’s worth a shot. I love my little Sparrow. I have had her for 2 weeks now. She is a darling and a great pet. She loves all of us including our cockatiels. And the cockatiels like her. They all fly around together. Good Luck. You have the makings of a great friend there if the egg is good. I hope so.
